Blog Entry 16: Final Reflection

In this ENG 102 class, I think I learn a lot of new things from professor. We are accessing internet in the computer lab to find information for our assignments. First, he introduces us to use blogger. At the beginning of the class,I feel very insecure to type and post my essay in the blog because I was afraid that other people may look and make fun of my work.English is not my native language and I have many grammar mistakes. Nevertheless, after I post some essays in the blog and got some feedbacks from other students in this class or other English tutor, I realize that it is really useful for us to post our essays in here. I don’t even have to go to Writing Center to ask tutor to give me feedback and correct my work because I can directly get feedback through friends in the blog. Beside this, I think I also learn something in the citation part. For example, I know how to cite a source appropriately through in-text citation or in the “work cited” part. I also learn different ways to cite sources getting through books, web, articles etc. Another thing that I think is fun is we can bring in some topics that we are interested into this class. Before this, I never like English class. The theme of this class is “Supernatural”, so we can research and write about some fancy topics that we will not usually discuss in a usual class. This elicit me to be get involved in the class and feel free to write those topics that I like such as vampire, Greek mythology and others. Professor also talks about different approaches that are useful to analyze poems, films and fictions. These are Jungian psychology, monomyth, symbolism, feminism and others. He shows to us how to incorporate these approaches in our story to make our work more vivid. The use of these approaches to analyze film, poem and fiction made me to be more able to understand the real meaning behind the story. Now I think that it is really fun to use those approaches to dissect poem, fiction and also film. I won’t feel bored and really have many ideas to work on the essay. I also think that now I am more understand about elements of literature such as theme, symbolism, character, and others.

This class really changes my prejudice that all English class are boring. This class is really fun and I will strongly recommend my friends to take this Eng 102 class. THANKS PROFESSOR!
